| "Having no way as
way; using no limitation as limitation". These philosophical principles
are the heart and soul of Jeet Kune Do; spoken with revolutionary
enlightenment by Sijo Bruce Lee. In essence, Jeet Kune Do is only
limited by the student’s passion to seek out the boundless
insights into combat and its direct relation to the human condition.
Although, when Bruce Lee passed away, his disciples were unsure as to
the direction in which to spread the art of Jeet Kune Do and to what
degree it should evolve. Being the only student to acquire the
instructor certification in Jeet Kune Do from Sijo Bruce, Sifu Dan
Inosanto, without a shadow of a doubt, has the closest vision of what
Bruce Lee intended as to Jeet Kune Do’s transition into the
next millennium.
Sifu Joaquim Almeria, who bears his martial lineage directly from Dan Inosanto, has continued in his teacher’s footsteps and sparked a new journey towards the evolution of Jeet Kune Do. Realizing that Jeet Kune Do’s concepts liken to every style, but are not bound to any of their limitations, Sifu Almeria has gone beyond the well of fighting arts that even Sijo Bruce drew from until his untimely death. The realm of pressure point combat was merely scratched during its inclusion into the Jeet Kune Do concepts and Sijo Bruce entrusted his friend, Prof. George Dillman with the further investigation into such an esoteric discipline in hopes that it could soon be integrated into the Jeet Kune Do concepts by Bruce Lee himself. Unfortunately, the passing of Sijo Bruce led to the ambiguity of pressure point systems for 30 years, up to its present day resurgence. After revitalizing the connection between the George Dillman Karate Association and the Jeet Kune Do community, Sifu Almeria has decided to fully integrate the pressure point principles of Kyusho Jitsu/ Dim-Mak into the Jeet Kune Do syllabus. Finally, the relation of Chi or internal energy to Sijo Bruce’s art resurfaced, due to Sifu Almeria’s long experience with Qi Gong and oriental medicine. Over the span of three continents(Europe, Asia, and America), Sifu Almeria has treated and instructed countless individuals with these oriental disciplines, with the intent of expanding the universal consciousness concerning martial values. The martial arts did not maintain their validity for thousands of years solely on how well a practitioner acclimated raw tissue to complicated techniques. Instead, Sifu Almeria believes that the student should have the opportunity to cultivate their potential for Chi energy and he provides such an opportunity through Qi Gongs’ integration with Jeet Kune Do. Given that Chi energy could be utilized during combat, Sifu Almeria surmised that it should be implemented as the refining tool that enables martial artists to not only be competent fighters, but also skilled healers. |
